It is the subconscious, and it never sleeps. It is the giant computer in which are housed the secrets of the universe. He who can communicate with his own soul can learn to control his destiny. It records all the happenings of this earthly sojourn, all the hurts that we have experienced, all the joys. All at the habits of the flesh and its different comforts are housed here. It is in constant contact with the Higher Spiritual Self. But it definitely has a mind of its own. Let’s call the subconscious the little self –just as regal, but very, very sensitive. Without the cooperation of the little self, you can do nothing. It sends you your dreams when it is trying to get in touch with your conscious mind. Since it never sleeps, it is also the warner of bad things to come, that are about to happen. It sends you messages of failings from your Higher Self, promptings when you are not producing good results for the growth of you spiritual self. When and if you can get all three units that make up the complete man (subconscious, Higher Spiritual Self, and conscious mind) to function as one, then you can accomplish all things.

Let’s give an example of the cooperation between the three comptrollers of your being. Suppose you have been misusing your passion for alcoholic drinks. The Higher Self becomes concerned that you are becoming bound by the usage of alcohol, and it will send a message of this concern to the soul. During the day, the lower self will keep nudging your conscious mind with this fact, making you feel guilty that you are abusing your Temple. If you do not take the warning, you might have a dream that night that you are at a bar and where there is a lot of confusion, and strange people milling about. It makes you feel uncomfortable and uneasy, and you want to leave this area but everything seems to prevent you. You feel trapped. Then you do get out and into your car, only to discover that you may run out of gas on your way home, and that you are riding down the road with no headlights on. Finally a policeman stops you. If, when you wake up, you look at the symbols that the soul is trying to convey to you, you certainly will have been warned. You’ll be warned that as you are on the Path, this kind of behavior will cause you to lose the way home, and you may be stopped from going on in your spiritual quest.

You have committed yourself to a higher calling. You have chosen the Way and you will not be free again to enjoy the things of the flesh that you enjoyed before. The chains that bind you to this planet are made of such stuff as these carnal appetites. And since your soul and spirit know that you are committed to a higher calling, they warn you of the danger to yourself.

If you doubt what I say, ask your soul tonight, upon retiring, to show you some of the things that you are doing wrong in your search. You will not have to wait long for a very graphic picture in your dreams of any problem areas.

So let’s call it soul, for the sake of understanding, although it is much more than that – conscience, heralder of danger, computer, guide, subconscious, and little friend. Because once you have programmed your soul with the fact that you have entered the Path to higher consciousness, it will not let you make errors that are going to hold back your growth. When all three units are operating as one, there is nothing that you can’t accomplish. All is in Divine Order if you will but listen to the promptings of your own soul. You three have been together all the way along, and you goal is to know God. And when the three function as one, great strides can be made.
