What You Resist Persists |

You must realize that as you alleviate [let go of] emotional attachments which motivate and engineer your lifetime, you stop magnetizing to yourself the like emotional surges of energy. What you resist persists, so as you evolve and remove some of these age-old deep-seated feelings, you become clearer, and react less to outside stimuli. | ||||||||

If nothing is present that makes you feel less than or unworthy, then when something in the world mirrors that lack of self-confidence to you, there’s no reaction. You don’t react, so it stops. What you resist persists. As you have incarnated down through the ages, you have had situations seemingly come against you that have even caused death of the physical — it could be the betrayal by a friend, a natural disaster, or any strong emotion experienced during a lifetime. These are all still recorded in your memory banks, and you are still reacting to them, even though some of them are ancient. You still have attachments to these feelings, and even though they haven’t happened to you in this lifetime, they’re still present to be dealt with. This is why sometimes instead of reacting to situations as they are presented to you today, you reach into ancient memories and react to situations as they were presented to you then. You are therefore not present in the present moment. You can understand, then, how in many areas of your life, you are reacting to old tapes, old memories, and old commands. That keeps you “in the game”, whereas if you remove your emotions, desires, and hangovers, you’re living in the moment, which is free of all these presumptions. You are free of all predilections. Most of your life has been spent reacting, rather than creating. Others have taught you that the creative moment is NOW, and all this clutter must be gotten out of the way before you’re truly living in the moment, to create. Many of your books and teachers have tried to get this point across: Know Thyself. If you really spend time processing (which is very much like deleting old programs from the hard drive of a computer), then the slate will have been emptied, and you will be free to create without these other influences polluting the process. To indeed become a creator, each moment must be new, unhampered by old
stuff, otherwise you’re going to recreate what you’ve experienced
in the past. The very cells of your body are programmed to experiences from the distant past. There might be a propensity to fear heights, for example, when there is no reason for that fear. Indeed, the physical at one time was destroyed by a fall. Even a lot of physical attractions are based on old tapes. One may have had an experience with a Celt, when everything was beautiful and harmonious; you see a Celtic-looking person, and because of old memory banks, you’re attracted to them. These recent scientific advances in genetics are going to unlock these propensities to illness because of memories. So then, start clearing. The Course in Miracles was for clearing out the old tapes. Everyone do work on it and realize how important it is. Choose a method with which you feel comfortable, but do begin clearing. Realize that you can’t ascend with one foot in one dimension and the other foot in another dimension. You must be free of these driving forces that are keeping you here. Look below the waters of the mind. There are some very deep, deep motivators present there. It’s time to remove the energy from this dimension of being, or you’ll repeat yourself.
